But when 11Alive's Center for Investigative Action visited the Tavern, two weeks later on January 23, they found a report posted - one from August of last year, with a score of 90 posted on the wall.
The owner of Hills Street Tavern blamed a plumbing issue for the low score. But, it wasn't just the plumbing cited on the January 10 inspection report. There were also a number of critical violations noted that could affect food safety including hazardous cold food held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit and cooked chicken not at the proper temperature to be served.
The owner admitted that he didn't want to scare customers away by posting the low score. He chalked the unsatisfactory score to a bad day. He's only been open eight months and has been doing great.
"Our first was a 99 and our second was a 90," owner John Robinson said.
Because of the unsatisfactory score, health inspectors returned within a couple of weeks for a reinspection. That yielded an improved score of 99. All was fixed.
