Prep Hoops Star Who Plays Violin Gets Big Day At ASO
Members of the Atlanta Symphony Brass Quintet perform holiday music in Atlantic Station as part of the Orchestra's "Classical Flash" promotion.
ATLANTA -- Miranda Cantrell played basketball at North Clayton High School, and she'll continue that sport at Jacksonville State University. She'd also like to continue player the violin.
One thing she'll always have is an incredible memory provided by the generosity of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. As part of 11Alive's Random Act of Kindness, she met music director Robert Spano, sat in on a rehearsal along with her teacher Chaney Cherry, was given tickets to a concert, and a one on one lesson from violin concertmaster David Coucheron.
"I was not expecting all of this" said Miranda. "When she looks back on this later in life, it will be a 'wow' moment" said Ms. Cherry.
The ASO reaches thousands of music students and teachers in Georgia with its educational programs, and is trying to raise funds to continue those efforts. You can find out about the "When I Play Music" campaign at: http://aso.org/give5.
