The Jones County Sheriff's office has not identified the body, but the Henry County Chamber of Commerce issued a statement that Coker's body was found in Jones County.
Authorities in Jones County are investigating the case as a homicide.
UPDATE (Saturday, March 17, 2012) -- The family of Doug Coker is now offering a reward for information that helps them find him. On Saturday, the family notified investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office that they had deposited a reward fund in a special account at United Community Bank. They have not yet publicly disclosed the amount of the fund, but they are hoping it will be one more tool investigators can use in talking with potential witnesses and others to track down where Coker is. "We just need everyone to help us get any information," said a niece on Saturday. "We greatly appreciate" everyone's help.
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. (Friday, March 16, 2012) -- An intense search is underway in multiple counties for a well-known businessman based in Stockbridge, Doug Coker, who disappeared Tuesday.
"It's absolutely touched the entire community," said one of Coker's friends, Accountant Greg Hammonds, Friday evening. "I know there have been several search parties organized from various groups the last two days.... Unfortunately, we don't have a lot, still, about the reasons why he may have disappeared. We just don't know. And that's what's worrisome."
Here's what investigators know:
Doug Coker, 67, drove from Henry County to Macon Tuesday morning.
Coker, who is married with two grown children, according to Hammonds, is in real estate, and he owns Coker Properties, dealing in commercial and residential properties.
Lt. Paul Edwards of the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said Friday that Coker had a meeting at the McDonald's restaurant on Bass Road in Macon Tuesday morning.
"We've talked to the person he was meeting," Lt. Edwards told 11Alive's Jon Shirek. "We're running all the phone numbers he called before and after the meeting -- family, friends, other business associates, and checking his business records."
Coker is seen on surveillance cameras at the McDonald's. He arrived at about 11:00 a.m., and left at 11:35 a.m.
Lt. Edwards said Coker made several cell phone calls after the meeting, and drove back toward Henry County that afternoon.
"There was a cell tower hit off of his cell phone in Monroe County at 2:10 p.m.," Edwards said. "We sent up a Georgia State Patrol helicopter looking for him and his car," a 2009 Dodge Avenger.
"Doug's a very gentle person, he's friends to everybody," Hammonds said. "The not knowing is the most troubling thing. He could be out there and need our help and nobody can get to him."
The Henry County Chamber of Commerce is one of the organizations in the area sending out emails asking for everyone's prayers and help.
Chamber President Kay Pippen wrote:
"By now most of you probably know that Henry County businessman Doug Coker is missing... A search party is currently looking for Mr. Coker.
As you probably know, Judy Coker, a former long time manager with First State Bank, is Doug's wife. Please keep Doug and Judy and their family in your prayers during this stressful time."
"Everybody here is hoping and praying that we'll have a good outcome to this," Hammonds said.
William "Doug" Coker, Sr.
