San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres on Wednesday signed
veteran hurler Jeff Suppan to a minor league contract with an invitation to
spring training.
Last season, the 37-year-old right-hander went 11-8 with a 4.78 earned run
average over 27 starts and one relief appearance with Kansas City's Triple-A
affiliate, the Omaha Storm Chasers.
Suppan last pitched in the majors in 2010, splitting the year with Milwaukee
and St. Louis.
The 2006 NLCS MVP as a member of the Cardinals, Suppan has compiled a 138-143
record with a 4.69 ERA during his 16-year major league career.
